Twenty years ago, as a high school kid in Bountiful, Utah, I was introduced to a world that would change my life forever. Some friends invited me to try fly fishing, and while I didn’t know it at the time, that day on the river would shape not only my passions but eventually my career.

At first, it was simply an escape — a way to get away from the noise of school, sports, and responsibilities. Standing in cold, clear water with a fly rod in hand felt different than anything else I’d known. It was a way to connect — with nature, with my friends, and slowly, with myself.

The rivers became our classroom. The Provo River taught us patience and precision. The Weber River showed us persistence and the reward of sticking with it even when the fish weren’t biting. Each outing built memories that have stayed with me for two decades.

What started as a simple invitation from a few friends has now come full circle. Today, I guide in the very same waters I first learned to cast on. As one of the local fly fishing guides in Park City and Heber City, I get the privilege of sharing these rivers with others — people from all over the world who come seeking the same escape, the same connection, that I once did.

But now, the experience goes beyond just fishing. Our trips are built around luxury fly fishing experiences, where guests can relax, enjoy the beauty of Utah, and focus on the joy of being present in the river. My role has shifted from the student to the teacher, but the heart of it remains the same — connection, escape, and discovery.

Two decades ago, the rivers were shown to me. Today, I show them to others. And that’s the beautiful full circle of fly fishing.
